It's been a LONG week!

This is that sculpture in downtown Chapel Hill (Hank running from me).  Don't you just love my photos and that I always have to explain them???  This is what I was taking about on your blog.  You and Goodman put me to shame!

So it's been a ridiculously long and wild week.  I'm still very excited about my new job.    I have still not signed a contract due to additional drama with HR, but I'm not complaining-well I will be next Friday when I don't have a paycheck...  Anyway I met the you of this school.  She even types extensive notes during meeting on her MACbook and wears fun earrings!  It's very weird.

We had Gus' open house last night.  His teacher is very sweet and she has 2 aides in her room!  I noticed her CAFE board and mentioned it.  She said that this year is the first year for the school to go to this model but she's been using for a few years now.  After talking to her for a bit, we went to find out bus info.  That was a mess.  Still not sure what bus he's riding or pick-up times.  I then made him go back to the front door and show me how to get to his class.  This school has 900 kiddos so it's rather large.  Luckily for him, his room is down the first hallway.  Overall I think he's excited.

After Gus' open house, I had mine.  Trent was to be home by 5, but wasn't.  I had to take the boys with me.  I was hoping that my open house assignment was NOT at the front door because I was nervous about the boys running around.  So I arrive to school with the boys and guess where I was to stand? FRONT DOOR.  Luckily for Trent, he arrived right after 6 when they opened the doors.  The kids were so excited and happy!  I hated not knowing any of them, but I tried to talk to as many as I could.  There is a large hispanic population in this area, thus we have a lot of families that speak spanish.  I told Trent I really need to take a course or two and learn some of the basics.  Overall I'm very excited about getting started working with kids! NOT excited about paperwork.

So it's Hank's turn...He's been happy and cheerful mostly.  We've had major unnecessary drama with the sitter.  I like her very much, but she was significantly late Tuesday which caused me to be late for my meeting.  I get home and they are still in jammies or next to nothing.  And on Wednesday Gus ate nothing all day and Hank only ate marshmallows and chocolate milk.  I don't mind the pjs as much as i mind the not eating thing.  So Trent and I have been interviewing more people-I finaly told trent last night that I think she'd be fine if we simply talked to her about these things...I mean I have, but not to the extent that I really should.  So not sure what's going to happen there.

Jill, Andy, Layne Nhi and the Chinese exchange student will be here NEXT Friday!  I'm thrilled about this!  It will be nice to see them.  When I talked to Layne Nhi last week she told me that 6th grade was hard.  I told her that's why I don't teach it!  I've talked to Jill every night this week.  Her car was broken into Monday night.  Evidently it happen all around the neighborhoods near cascades.  Jill is freaked!  She's now getting a security system installed.  We lived in 3 houses down for 2 years with the house unlocked most of the time and nothing.  She moves into the neighborhood and 3 weeks later, this happens.  She stressed this to me a few times.  That's her luck though.

Well I need to head out :(  But at least today I get to be in my room ALL day!!!

Keep taking gorgeous pics and making me jealous!

  1. You are packing in a lot of info in these posts. WELL DONE, RITCHEY! I'm most excited about Gus and his cool teacher. I think he's going to do great at that school.

A talk with the sitter sounds in order. She needs to be on time, at the very least. You know how to do this. You're so much better at it than I am. I'm sure you'll get it straightened out quickly. At least the boys are happy in their jammies.

Tell Jill that when we were on a sabbatical in San Francisco, our car got broken into on one of our first nights in the apartment. I feared we were going to have to deal with stuff like that all year, but nothing like that ever happened again.

Your job is getting me pumped up. I really miss the FV kids. There are so many adorable kids running around the beaches here. The cool thing about living here is that there are Muslim families, Jewish families, Christian families and regular NonBeliever Families like us all mixed together. It's a hodgepodge and makes for great people watching. I love living in a city again.

We move into our apt. next week. I'm going to miss this little hotel / guest house room. Everything's right here that we need. It's names after this couple called the Forshheimers. I've decided that If I ever get rich, I want to create a guest house and name it after myself. A great legacy.

So glad your crew is coming for a visit. Say hi to them all. Love 2 U doll!
